In 1976, the Delangre family founded Celtic Sea Salt® to share their love of natural sea salt with the world. Our salts are harvested by hand from pristine waters as nature intended – pure, mineral rich, and exquisitely flavorful. Today, this vision is guided by Selina Delangre, daughter-in-law of our founder Jacques Delangre. We search the world for the best salts that deliver our vital mineral blend and promote health and wellness.
Our original salts—Light Grey Celtic®, Celtic Fine Ground™, and Fleur de Sel—were harvested using traditional techniques developed nearly 2,000 years ago by the Celts in the Guerande region of France. “Celtic” was coined by our founder Jacques Delangre to honor the origin of these methods.
Over time, we have curated exceptional salts from other regions while maintaining the same standards of purity and traditional harvesting that Jacques first established. We now have a broad range of Celtic Sea Salt® offerings, from Light Grey Celtic® to Celtic Kosher™ to Makai Pure® and more to satisfy the needs of our loyal followers.
Every type of Celtic Sea Salt® is hand-harvested, and all remain unrefined, as nature intended, with nothing added or removed.
- Light Grey Celtic®: Our original, whole crystal sea salt is flavorful, unrefined, and the salt for nutrition, flavor, and hydration. Light Grey Celtic® gets its color from the natural salt beds, which can be over 1,000 years old.
- Celtic Fine Ground™: Celtic Fine Ground™ salt is made from carefully crushing sea salt crystals—a gentle process that preserves the concentration of naturally occurring minerals. The result? Soft, flavorful, gourmet fine grains for baking, seasoning, and daily culinary use.
- Celtic Kosher™: Celtic Kosher™ is trusted by chefs and health professionals alike to enhance flavor and promote wellness with its naturally occurring minerals. While many Kosher salts are industrially mined and processed, Celtic Kosher™ is hand harvested in pristine waters, unrefined and free of chemical additives – it is simply washed in sea water to preserve its high mineral content and natural taste. It is naturally lower in sodium and electrolyte rich.
- Makai Pure®: Makai Pure® is our sea salt hand-harvested from deep ocean waters, prized for its clean, vibrant flavor and naturally occurring trace minerals. With lower sodium content than table salt, it's the perfect choice for cooking and finishing.
- Fleur de Sel: Fleur de Sel is the rarest and most delicate of our sea salts. This natural "flower" rises to the surface of salt ponds and is hand-harvested in small quantities. Light and flaky, it's the chef's choice for finishing with elegance.
- Celtic Pink Cave Salt: Celtic Pink Cave Salt is a rare, unrefined salt sourced from ancient deposits. It is naturally lower in sodium and higher in potassium—an essential mineral sought after to support hydration, muscle function, and heart health.
- Celtic River Salt®: Formed from an underground brine spring that naturally wells to the surface.

Products
There is no iodine added, but a natural trace amount (~0.2 ppm) is present.
No. Salt is nature’s original preservative. Expiration dates are added at the request of some of our retail partners.
The natural brine—"mother liquor"—remains in the salt. Moisture varies with climate and mineral content. If needed for grinding, salt can be gently dried using a low heat method.
Avoid metal containers or grinders. Moisture + salt + metal can corrode. Plastic, glass, ceramic, or wood work well.
Celtic Sea Salt® is ideal for health and wellness with its vital mineral blend routines and culinary applications with its natural rich taste. Combine Celtic Sea Salt® with water and lemon juice for a refreshing way to start your day or use it in your favorite recipes for flavor and performance that will enhance any dish.

Letter from Our CEO
Dear Cherished Customer,
We’ve been harvesting salt from salt beds in pristine waters for nearly 50 years. Our salts are sundried, completely unrefined, and retain essential trace minerals that support hydration, bone strength, and cognitive function. We’ve earned the trust of wellness professionals because we don’t cut corners.
As we have been transparent about our Celtic Sea Salt® products and their health benefits, we also want to be transparent about recent news regarding potential lead or lawsuits.
Our salt has always contained trace amounts of lead. We’ve never hidden this, and it does not mean it’s unsafe. Naturally occurring salts do have trace amounts of heavy metals. Our typical lead content is around 0.68 micrograms per serving—less than many whole foods and well below the Codex guideline of 1,000 ppb.
Celtic Sea Salt® is not contaminated; nothing is wrong with the product. Trace metals are naturally bound within the mineral rich clay that gives our salt its nutrients. These tiny amounts are not industrial contamination.
There is no outstanding lawsuit, and no changes were ever required. The lawsuit circulating online has been resolved.
The Delangre family has been sourcing unrefined salt with natural minerals since 1976. For nearly 50 years, we’ve tested every lot to ensure safety and mineral integrity. I am very pleased to partner with Selina Delangre to fulfill her family’s vision to bring the best salts to the world, promoting health and wellness.
Sincerely,
Ben Rudman
Chief Executive Officer
Celtic Sea Salt®
We go above and beyond standard food grade requirements. Every lot is tested by our local producers for heavy metals and microbiological safety before it ever ships to us, and we verify those results through third-party testing. Because our salts are unrefined and unaltered, their composition remains naturally consistent over time—just as nature intended.
Our local suppliers test every single lot at the source for mineral composition and pathogenic bacteria. We then review all specifications before packaging, and we also conduct third-party testing to ensure ongoing compliance with FDA limits for heavy metals and microbiological safety.
We use reputable, accredited labs—including Advanced and Eurofins—to independently verify mineral content, heavy metals, and microbiological safety.
Yes. The international Codex Alimentarius standard sets the limit for lead in table salt at 1 ppm (1,000 ppb). Celtic Sea Salt® products consistently test far below this threshold. Even our highest natural variations remain well within safe consumption levels.
Yes. Because our salts are hand harvested and unrefined, occasional natural sea materials—such as tiny bits of clay or mineral rich sediment—may remain. These are harmless and part of what gives full spectrum sea salt its unique mineral complexity.
No. We use high-quality PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) containers that are food grade, BPAfree, and non-leaching. Our packaging has been tested to ensure that no plastic permeates into the salt.
Proposition 65 is a California specific requirement. It mandates warnings for potential exposure to trace amounts of naturally occurring elements—like heavy metals—that can be found in nearly all foods grown or harvested from the earth.
No. The lawsuit circulating online has already been resolved. Celtic Sea Salt® is not the subject of any current class action, and no court has ever found unsafe levels of lead or arsenic.
Celtic Sea Salt® averages 489 ppb or 0.7 mcg per serving, which is lower than many common foods like sweet potatoes, spinach, shrimp, turmeric, and wine. Our products fully comply with Codex, FDA, and Prop 65.
No. PPB is a ratio—not an exposure level. What matters is micrograms per serving. Celtic Sea Salt® averages 0.7 mcg, far below limits set for tap water and well within global safety standards.
No. These trace amounts are naturally occurring, not industrial contamination. Average arsenic levels are under 100 ppb, with many lots below detectable levels.
Every batch of our salt is sourced and packed in facilities that meet strict U.S. food-safety regulations and international quality standards. We follow all FDA requirements for food safety, manufacturing, and handling to ensure the highest level of care.
Beyond these required standards, we go a step further. Independent third-party experts regularly audit our facilities and test our salt for purity, moisture, mineral balance, heavy metals, and environmental contaminants. Only salt that meets both our internal quality standards and all regulatory requirements is approved for sale.
Our packaging is also BPA-free and made without persistent bioaccumulative toxins or PFAS.
