Celtic Sea Salt® was founded in 1976 by Jacques DeLangre. He was importing the French Sel Gris to America and selling it as the term he coined "Celtic Sea Salt". This turned into a brand and a business. For years we only offered the Light Grey Celtic®, Celtic Fine Ground™, and Fleur de Sel. As time went on, unrefined salt producers from other locations would reach out to us to see if we were interested in carrying their salt. When we were impressed with the harvesting practices and mineral profiles, we would add more unrefined salts to our Celtic Sea Salt® collection. Now we offer salts from multiple locations, including France, Portugal, Guatemala, Hawaii USA, and Colima Mexico. Here is a little more about the salts we sell here at Selina Naturally, home of the Celtic Sea Salt® brand. Light Grey Celtic® is the original Celtic Sea Salt® since 1976. Harvested in France from clay-lined beds. Natural, moist crystals with the light grey color.
Celtic Fine Ground™ comes from the Light Grey Celtic® just low temperature dried and crushed for convenience. Great for baking and as a "transition" salt for those who are new to unrefined sea salt.
Fleur de Sel is the salt crystals skimmed off the surface of the brine. Considered a gourmet finishing or expediting salt, what you would use to "finish" the meal, the last thing you do before serving is add a pinch of Fleur de Sel.
Makai Pure® is the salt we have from Hawaii. Produced with proprietary methods. The salt crystallizes into flakes and chunks and is of the most mineral rich salts we carry. The crystals are a brilliant white.
Celtic Kosher™ is from Guatemala. 3rd generation salt farmers harvest here seasonally. The salt is moist, tiny, delicate crystals, and perfect for an all-purpose salt. We now offer a shaker for the Celtic Kosher™, but it is also easy to just pinch and serve from the bag or a dish.
Celtic Kosher™ Coarse is our newest salt from Colima, Mexico. The seawater is filtered by the Earth as it comes up through the ground and the salt is very high mineral and pure. Chunky moist colorless crystals with exceptional mineral content and flavor, the Celtic Kosher™ is on the rise to be our favorite salt.
Celtic Kosher™ Fine comes from the Celtic Kosher™ Coarse just crushed for convenience. This salt is not dried so heads up it is a very moist ground salt. With a great full spectrum mineral profile, the Celtic Kosher™ Fine is an all-purpose mineral rich salt with a wonderful flavor.
As you see from the above list of unrefined salts we now carry, it can be difficult to decide. Each of our salts comes from a unique place and has some variations, but you can rest assured that our salts are unrefined and have nothing added or removed. Any salt choice you make with us will be a good one.
